Street Art Utopia

Visit StreetArtUtopia. I love the idea of making our public world more interesting and visually appealing.  All of the art work is awesome, but the 3D art is by far my favorite.  I don’t know how an artist can make something look so real on a roughly 2-dimensional canvas (that isn’t really a canvas as much as it is a building or a street or a sidewalk).

Superhydrophobic Coating: NeverWet

Featured

Water resistant coatings like Scotch Guard, Teflon, & Rain X have been around for years. Well, now a new product has been developed by Ross Nanotechnology, LLC called NeverWet. I’m not sure when it will be on the shelves, but hopefully soon.  It’s a silicon-based chemical with superhydrophobic properties, which of course means it’s super “water fearing.”  Not only does it appear to block the absorption of water more than any other product I’ve seen, but they claim it also acts as an anti-icing, anti-bacterial, and anti-corrosive agent.  I’m still skeptical, but if it works I know one person who won’t have to wash their clothes or sheets quite so often.  Also, it would be nice to not have to wipe off my glasses when it rains…

The applications seem endless…

Web Browsers…

Featured

If you are using Internet Explorer [IE], you should consider upgrading.  While Internet Explorer 9 is okay in some regards, if you want to experience the best features of this website and most others you should consider getting Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox (two browsers that are much more web developer and internet friendly). As of January 2012, 60% of people use a web browser like Chrome, Safari, Opera, or Firefox, while only 35% still use Internet Explorer [1]. Help out web developers like me and make the switch.

You might be asking, “Why are people making the switch to these other web browsers?” The answer is simple… Internet Explorer doesn’t keep up very well with the latest in web development, like HTML5 coding and what not, while Chrome and Firefox (and another browser which I personally love, Opera) do. There are also rumors that these other browsers are more secure and safer to use – a claim that I personally believe.  Furthermore, they typically offer better plugins and extensions than IE, which can make your web browsing more efficient and comfortable.

How to build your own website…

Featured

Learning how to code and build your own website is actually quite easy these days…

If you can afford it, a program like Adobe Dreamweaver is very helpful and can make the process go much faster (as well as provide templates and check for coding errors).  If Dreamweaver is a little too expensive, you can always go with a free program like Notepad++, which can create pretty much any file you will ever need.

To get started I would suggest going to a website like html.net or w3schools.com. I’m in the process of making my own tutorial for building a website, but I still have a ways to go.  Of course, if you need help feel free to email me your questions.  I can hopefully answer any questions regarding coding, SEO [Searching Engine Optimization], CMS [Content Management System] platforms, etc. – and if I can’t I should know someone who does…

GarciaM44 Website Rev. 4.0!

I just finished the first stages of developing my personal WordPress powered website. Things will be changing around a bit for the next few weeks so bear with me…

The theme is a modified version of the WordPress Twenty-Eleven Theme, so I guess I can call it my own since some of the tweaking and coding is my own.

The Future of Technology

Microsoft’s Productivity Future Vision 2011

I love futuristic movies like Minority Report and I, Robot which is probably why I like this video by Microsoft where everything is touchscreen and updates instantly. I hope the future is as convenient as they make it seem…

Aeroshot: Caffeine you inhale.

These look pretty interesting… a shot of caffeine (equal to a large cup of coffee: 100mg) that you can inhale from a little canister. They were invented by a professor at Harvard, David Edwards, who seems to have other ideas/products in this category from his venture called “breathable foods.” The Aeroshot is set to release in Boston and NY in about 90 days…

Update:

So I’ve tried Aeroshot twice and both times the powder seemed to be crammed up and condensed in the cylinder, although the second time was much better.  The first time was actually quite terrible.  I tried taking a puff and nothing seemed to come out.  So I tried again, and again – inhaling slightly harder each time – still nothing much came out at all.  Finally, I pressed it to my lips and tried to inhale a little harder (but still not that hard) when suddenly a giant plume was released along with tiny crumbs – didn’t taste very wonderful, in fact, it tasted awful.  When I broke it open, there were clumps of the powder product in the bottom.  I did feel a mild caffeine rush.

The second time was much better – when I took my first puff and inhaled very mildly – I could taste a little.  The second puff and inhale, a decent amount came out.  While I don’t really like the taste, it isn’t bad.  This time no crumbs and I could feel a mild caffeine rush once again.

So maybe I just needed a little practice. Either way, I don’t think this will replace coffee in my life, although I may keep one in my bag for energy emergencies.
